Lando Norris Leads Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
Lando Norris has outscored Oscar Piastri at all of the past five race weekends.
The McLaren driver narrowly beat team-mate and title rival Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the closing stages of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who grabbed the championship lead from Piastri by one point after taking the win in Mexico City two weeks ago, beat the Australian by a mere 0.023s.
Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the leading McLaren during the running before the sprint shootout due at 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the other racer in the championship fight, sitting 36 points Norris, was classified in P17 as his team opted for a different programme.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to go off, though minor, when he rotated at Turn Four soon after starting.
The Japanese spun out over the exit kerbs before rotating through the gravel trap, and was lucky to get away with just a light touch of the fence.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also spun, at the conclusion of the session, turning around through the quick descending corner before the final corner on to the pit straight.
The veteran wrapped up in 19th, one place behind team-mate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren drivers were significantly quicker of the rest of the field, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber third fastest, over half a second behind the Australian's time.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was in fourth, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto fifth from the Mercedes of George Russell and Alpine's Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
