The Prince of Wales Set to Attend COP30 Climate Summit in South America
Prince William is scheduled to attend the United Nations climate conference in Brazil in the coming weeks, as announced by palace sources.
The father and son duo made a joint appearance on Thursday evening at a gathering leading up to the climate summit, which is planned for in the Amazonian city of Belem.
Father and son were participating in the Natural History Museum reception, marking an unusual joint appearance at a pre-COP30 gathering arranged together with the UK government.
Climate Leadership Commitment
King Charles has been a consistent supporter of biodiversity preservation - and Prince William has taken on the baton, with his own environmental prize initiative, which will be taking place in South America preceding the UN meeting.
Royal sources have portrayed Prince William's attendance at the forthcoming conference as assuming an significant responsibility in "global climate discussions".
Recent Engagements
The monarch and his heir, making a joint entrance in the state Bentley, were introduced to guests including conservation experts, scientists, environmental activists, foreign representatives and government officials.
This participation involved presentations in concert with President Emmanuel Macron of France and other international figures at the Blue Economy and Finance Forum in the Principality of Monaco in recent months.
Earthshot Awards Connection
The UN meeting will coincide with the prince's own sustainability recognition program, which will wrap up in the Brazilian city the day before he attends the COP summit on the sixth of November.
Last week the royal figure described the Earthshot finalists as "contemporary champions".
Monarch's Environmental Record
The King has been a prominent presence at previous climate summits, giving the opening address in the United Arab Emirates for COP28, including the statement: "The Earth does not belong to us, we belong to the Earth".
"Throughout my life I've dedicated a significant amount of my life trying to alert people to the existential threats challenging our world over planetary heating, climate change and species extinction," the King told attendees.
